Yoke Book Club is for the thinkers, the feelers, and the carers of the world. At a time of great division, books are intentionally selected to offer an expansive and compassionate lens through which to view the world. If you’re familiar with intersectionality, the framework created by Kimberle Crenshaw in the 80’s, your heart will melt at the book selection. If you’re not, I’m pretty confident you’ll still melt.
Meeting every 6 weeks (or so), we will discuss the selected book openly and honestly. Discussion questions will lightly guide our conversation to keep us on track.
Each gathering will finish with a brief somatic practice to help integrate our learning and find our green zone. Each short practice will utilize a combination of yoga’s ancient traditions, like pranayama (breathwork) and gentle movement (asana) that can be done seated or reclined, as well as elements of Polyvagal Theory.
The intent is to broaden our minds, expand our hearts, and find safety within our bodies and our communities. We finish each meeting with a shared intention to engage in one act of service inspired by our reading.
