Embodyoga for birth

Creating a human within your body requires space and contrary to mainstream belief, there is much we can do in our everyday lives to create this space.

Through an exploration of our pelvic bowl, postural alignment, breathing habits and more, we are able to create space for baby to find their optimal position and for mothers to find comfort during pregnancy. Learn how to move in a way that is supportive of the birth and postpartum you envision.

Birth happens in the body, not the mind.

Pregnancy has a way of bringing us home to our bodies in ways we’ve never experienced before. Somatic practices, like yoga, help to aid in this process of coming home to our bodies by first creating a sense of safety. This safety translates to an embodied, felt sense of Self that will carry you through pregnancy, birth, and all of parenthood.

  • How we sit, stand, and move in our everyday lives plays an incredible role in how our baby positions themselves in our body. We will explore what it means to sit in alignment and how that differs from traditional movement practices made for male bodies.

  • Learn what the pelvis is and how mobile all of its bones are in preparation for vaginal birth. Explore what your own pelvis feels like and how baby’s descent is influenced by our pelvis and the shapes we take throughout the day.

  • The changes of pregnancy, the unexpected nature of birth, and the reality of parenting all require a grounded nervous system. Breath work (pranayama), as well as visualization and sounding, are all tools that we will explore to add to your nervous system regulation kit.

  • Through a combination of cerebral and somatic practices (think pelvic models, discussion questions, yoga, and breathwork), we will gently tune your attention and locus of control inward. When we are able to comfortably tune inward, even through uncomfortable situations, we can hear and rely on our internal compass to guide us through the twists and turns of parenthood.

  • Learning to feel the sensations and feelings in our body and trust in the messages it sends us is integral to the parenting journey. Gently exploring the parts of us we’ve ignored and the newly emerging aspects of Self is an incredible process for embodying your role as a newly born parent.
